Blink Camera Not Recording Motion. Are you experiencing this issue? It’s common among Blink users and easy to fix, often due to a low battery, weak Wi-Fi, or sync module issues. In this article, we explain every reason Blink Cameras fail to detect motion. To learn more about motion sensor cameras, click here.
Blink motion detection is not working—common causes.
Before moving to advanced solutions, review the most common issues that may prevent your Blink camera from detecting motion.
Motion Detection is turned off.
Sensitivity is too low.
Activity Zones are blocking detection.
Weak Wi-Fi or Sync Module offline
Low battery power
Camera placement errors
Outdated Blink app
These problems have been solved step by step below.
How to Fix a Blink Camera Not Detecting Motion (Step-by-Step)
Turn ON Motion Detection (Most Common Fix)
To turn on motion detection, open the Blink app, select the camera, and enable detection. If it is off, the camera won’t detect movement or send alerts, record, or trigger activity.
Adjust Blink Camera Motion Detection Settings
If sensitivity is too low, the camera ignores minor movement. Set it to medium or higher.
Go to Camera Settings.
Tap Motion Settings.
Set Sensitivity to Medium-High or High
Turn ON Motion Recording
Blink Camera Not Picking Up Motion? Adjust Activity Zones
How to Fix It:
Open Activity Zones in Blink and verify that important areas, such as the door, driveway, gate, and road, are visible and saved.
Blink Camera Not Recording Motion — Fix Power Issues
If the Blink camera is not detecting motion, a weak battery could be the worst reason. Weak batteries cannot provide enough power for the camera to work perfectly. Only adequate batteries can enable the camera to work well. Extra batteries are required for motion detection. If the battery is weak, alert video recording and motion detection will not record or detect anything. Check the battery indicator in the Blink app. If it shows low, the battery is weak and needs to be changed.
How to Fix
Replace the battery with a lithium type. Avoid using alkaline or rechargeable batteries, as they may not power the camera sufficiently.
Weak Wi-Fi? That’s Why the Blink Camera Is Not Detecting People
Blink Motion Camera requires a strong Wi-Fi signal to detect motion. If the Wi-Fi is weak, there may be a delay in sending alerts and notifications. The camera totally misses anything that moves in front of it, whether it be a person or a car.
How to Fix
Place the camera close to the router. Thick walls and metal objects can block Wi-Fi signals. Do not place the camera behind them. Use a Wi-Fi extender for large homes.
Blink Camera Motion Fix: Restart Sync Module
Please reboot the sync module to resolve any Blink camera motion detection issues. This can fix 50% of motion-detection issues. When the sync module does not receive a good signal, the camera fails to record motion and clips.
Restart the Sync Module:
Unplug the sync module from the power outlet.
Wait 10 seconds for temporary memory bugs to be discharged.
Reinstall the Sync module to enable reboot.
Wait until the solid green and blue lights show.
When these lights show, the system is online.
A clean reboot fixes motion detection issues and refreshes the Wi-Fi connection to the sync module.
Blink Camera Troubleshooting—Reset and Re-Add Camera
Sometimes, the camera may not detect motion due to corrupted motion settings or firmware. To resolve this, reset the camera. Resetting and reloading refreshes the camera’s connection to the Wi-Fi sensor module. The firmware motion detection feature reloads the settings.
Fix: Refresh the Camera Setup
Open the Blink app.
Select your camera.
Tap Device Settings → General.
Choose Delete Device.
Return to the home screen and tap Add Device.
Scan the QR code on the camera.
Reconnect it to your Sync Module or Wi-Fi.
Reconfigure motion-related settings (sensitivity, zones, detection toggle, etc.). After adding the motion detection feature, the firmware settings update resolves the camera’s temporary issues.
Camera Placement Tips for Better Motion Detection
Blink cameras use PIR sensors to detect motion. PIR sensors detect animals and vehicles by sensing their body heat. It ignores the leaves of trees on busy streets. Blink cameras need a clear, unobstructed view to detect motion accurately. By placing the camera too high or too low, the PIR sensors will not be able to recognise animals and vehicles or sense heat, which will cause the camera to fail to detect motion.
Mount 7–10 feet high.
Mount the camera 7 to 10 feet high; this will give it a clear view and allow it to detect motion correctly.
Point toward motion paths.
Point the camera toward walkways, driveways, or streets where people walk or drive.
Avoid facing windows.
Do not place the camera near a window. PIR cannot detect motion through a window, so when someone passes by, the camera will not detect movement.
Avoid direct sunlight.
Do not point the camera directly at the sun. Sunlight will hit the camera lens, changing the camera’s temperature and potentially confusing its motion detection.
